What was your favorite project to create? Why? My favorite project was the glass plate. The glass plate was my favorite because it was really fun to cut each shape and see the plate come together. Also, it was more of a free project where I got to choose my colors and design. I liked the plate because rather than getting a template off of the internet, I created it my self so it was really cool to see my idea come to life. Also, it came out just how I wanted it to and was perfectly smooth, just how I expected and wanted. Lastly, I think it shows all of my improvement throughout the class because each piece fit together and worked well with one another. Think about a time where you struggled or found something difficult. How were you able to overcome this struggle? A time where I struggled, was when I had to saw the petals out of metal of my soldering project. I struggled because I had to cut so much on an angle and the blade kept snapping. It took a lot of time, but I was able to overcome this struggle. I overcame this struggle by taking my time and moving the metal not the blade to achieve each of the intricate angled cuts. I kept sawing no matter how tired my hand was and was finally able to cut all the pieces I needed for this project. Think about when you first walked into this class, what did you know, what didn't you know...Now, explain how you have grown over the semester in your ability to do metals and glass. Walking into this class I didn't know anything about metals and the only thing I knew about glass was that it cut you! I learned so much about both mediums through the projects I have done in class. First, I didn't know you needed to score the glass before you broke it, then apply pressure to break each part off. I learned that solder was small pieces of metal that when melted help to pieces of metal stick together. I learned about all of the different typed of glass, like sheet glass, frit, frit balls and stringers. I learned that in order to metal you need to saw each piece individually until it fell off, and that scissors wouldn't cut the metal. I learned the how to distinguish between different types of glass from the fish project and the stained glass project. Teaching me about stained glass and regular glass and how stained glass does not melt. This semester in metals and glass has been so cool and I have learned so much about both mediums!
